We are currently looking for a Controls Engineer. This position is responsible for Electrically designing and detailing of custom web handling machinery based on machine specifications from customers, while working with a project team of a project manager, electrical engineers and mechanical engineers.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Work as a team member with other departments (Sales, Project Management, Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing and Assembly) to design, manufacture, test and install equipment fulfilling customer expectations.
Research customer specifications and conceive a control system design to meet the specification.
Professional interaction with customers.
Gather vendor quotations, create bill of material for purchasing department and prioritize ordering of long lead items.
Participate in design review meetings and accept constructive design options from co-workers and team members.
Engage in interdepartmental communication to develop and agree upon a machine functional description that fulfills the customer specification.
Take ownership of your project.
Design electrical and pneumatic panel assemblies.
Follow up on purchase parts and manufactured parts to expedite completing the project.
Create documents (schematics, bills of material, and programs) for production that fulfill the requirements of customer orders. Follow defined manufacturing and operation standards. Or help to create standards where none exist.
Maintain drawing files or reference information on network.
Timely completion of assigned tasks. You will own the technical part of your project. You may have to work overtime to achieve deadlines.
Technically support the team and customer at factory acceptance test.
Support continuous improvement process by evaluating and implementing suggestions.
Assure sufficient and accurate communication with project team.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to design and test electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment including on-machine power distribution, PLCs, and AC/DC drives.
Must have a positive, can-do, attitude.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to troubleshoot, repair, or upgrade existing machines.
Working knowledge of standard Windows based software (Word & Excel).
Epicor ERP system knowledge is a plus.
Knowledge of machine safety standards, and their application.
Ability to read/write technical documents
Problem solving skills.
Ability to evaluate cost /benefit relationships as they relate to design.
Ability to work in team environment.
Ability to work independently without supervision.
Willingness to provide enthusiasm and creative solutions to meeting our customer needs and achieving the company’s goals.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for customer/vendor interaction.
Knowledge of Allen Bradley and web handling experience a plus.
Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment.
Education and Experience:
Minimum 7 years related experience
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is desired. Associates Degree is required. Experience in design and manufacturing processes required. Experience with web handling preferred.
Preferred experience and knowledge of:
Web handling equipment design concepts and components.
PLC and HMI design
Design and creating schematics
